L.A. Poker Classic Prelims Update

Tournaments, 2008-02-14, by Ozone

In a span of eleven days, Men Nguyen has won three tournaments at the L.A. Poker Classic. The first of these was a $300 buy-in 7-card stud event on February 3rd. That event drew 173 players. Nguyen won $15,100 for first place. Five days later, he bested a field of 201 in a $1,500 buy-in no-limit hold'em tournament. For that, he earned $81,000. Today, he dusted off the remaining players from a starting field of 52 in a $2,500 buy-in no-limit hold'em tournament to add another $42,000 to his career earnings.

Just three weeks ago, Nguyen finished third in a field of 259 in the $10,000 buy-in World Poker Open. All of these performances have Nguyen sitting in second place in Card Player's Player of the Year Standings.

In first place is 18 year old poker phenomenon Michael "timex" McDonald. In two preliminary events at the Aussie Millions, McDonald posted a second and first place finish. Earlier this month, he won the EPT German Open Main Event for a cool $1,381,000.
